THE ELEPHANT KING AND THE FORGOTTEN RAIN
A JOURNEY TO FREE THE PRISONER OF LAKE BINSAR
CHAPTER 1: THE THIRSTY MORNING OF GANGAVAN
The sun rose over Gangavan like a molten copper coin, casting a harsh and unforgiving glare across the once-vibrant horizon. Where there used to be a soft, morning mist, there was now only a thick, suffocating haze of dust that hung heavily in the air. The great forest, once a tapestry of emerald and jade, had turned into a graveyard of brittle browns and ghostly, skeletal greys. The soil beneath the towering trees was cracked into jagged geometric patterns, looking like a puzzle that had forgotten its pieces.
The Neerganga River, the legendary silver heartbeat of the jungle, had shrunk to a pathetic, muddy trickle in its center. Large, smooth river stones that had been submerged for centuries now sat exposed to the heat, their surfaces hot enough to burn. The fish that once leaped in the crystalline currents were gone, and the reeds along the banks had bowed their heads in defeat. Every morning, the animals would gather at the banks, staring at the empty bed with eyes full of quiet, desperate longing.
King Viru stood upon a high ridge, his massive ears flapping slowly in a vain attempt to catch a single cool breeze. His wrinkled grey skin felt like parched parchment, and the weight of his crown felt heavier than it ever had in years of peace. He watched a mother deer nudge her fawn toward a dry puddle, only for the little one to find nothing but bitter, sun-baked clay. The King felt a sharp pang in his chest; he was the protector of this realm, yet he could not command the clouds to weep.
The silence was perhaps the most frightening change of all, for the vibrant songs of the morning birds had completely vanished. Even the insects seemed to have lost their hum, leaving behind a hollow quiet that echoed the growing emptiness of the land. Four months had passed since a single drop had touched the leaves, and the spirit of the woods was fading with every sunset. Viru raised his trunk and let out a low, mournful rumble that vibrated through the dry earth, a call for hope in a dying world.
CHAPTER 2: THE COUNCIL OF THE WILTED TREES
Under the skeletal remains of the Great Banyan, the leaders of the forest gathered for a meeting born of absolute necessity. The lion had lost his roar, the wolves looked like shadows of their former selves, and the monkeys sat still, lacking the energy to play. They sat in a wide circle, their tails dragging in the dust, as they waited for their King to address the gathering crisis. The heat of the afternoon sun beat down through the thinning canopy, offering no sanctuary for those seeking relief.
